How to Choose a Bow Sight in 2026: Single Pin vs Multi-Pin, Slider vs Fixed

When I build a bow I want one that will stand up to the conditions and is easy to use. The sight is half of that equation.

Sight choice depends on what you hunt. There is no universal best. Here's how I think about it, and the exact models I run.

The Three Categories That Matter

• Fixed multi-pin: Three to seven pins set at fixed yardages. The traditional hunting sight.
• Slider: One pin, or a hybrid with a few fixed pins on top and a slider for distance. Dial to range.
• Target sight: Long bar, premium scope, single pin. For competition.

Fixed Multi-Pin: My Picks

For a fixed-pin hunter — tree stand, blind, anywhere shots come fast inside 40 yards — here is what we can actually put in your hands:

• CBE Tactic 3-Pin .019: Smart mount multi-positioning. Tool-less elevation and windage gang adjustment with laser-engraved reference marks, so you are not hunting for an Allen key at the range. .019" blade pins and a fluorescent peep alignment ring. Ambidextrous. The most straightforward fixed three-pin on our shelf and the one we hold in real depth.
• Spot Hogg Boonie Dovetail — 7-Pin .019: 4" dovetail bar that mounts directly to Bridge Lock bows, plus a bow mount for standard riser holes. Quick-detach that comes back without losing zero. Full 1st, 2nd and 3rd axis adjustment and horizontal micro-adjust windage. Read the pin count before you buy: seven fixed pins is a lot of sight picture, and this is a different sight from the single-pin ROTI Boonie you may have seen reviewed elsewhere. See the slider section below for what happened to those.

This section used to open with the Spot Hogg Hogg-It and the Dialed Archery Strike, and I still rate both — the Hogg-It is built like a tank and carries a lifetime warranty, and the Strike's 7.5 oz precision-machined body, Cerakote finish and Mag-Swap scope system are genuinely good engineering. We do not carry either one. That means they do not get to sit at the top of a list on our own store, so they are named here as context and nothing more. Buy them elsewhere with a clear conscience.

Black Gold Ascent Mountain Lite and HHA Optimizer Lite are fine if you already have them. They aren't where I start a new build. Two availability notes on that pair, because they are not in the same situation: Black Gold is permanently gone from our shelf — the brand does not permit dropshipping, every Black Gold product page we had has been removed, and none of it is coming back. HHA we do still stock, in the Optimizer Lite X 5019 single-pin .019 RH. My reservation above is a preference, not an availability problem, and I am not going to pretend otherwise in either direction.

Sliders

I shoot a slider on most of my hunting bows. The list below is ordered by what we can actually fill.

1. Spot Hogg Hogg Father PRO — Dovetail RH. The most complete slider on our shelf and the only one we hold in every configuration: 1-Pin .010 ROTI, 3-Pin .010, 3-Pin .019, 5-Pin .010, 5-Pin .019 and Triple Stack .019. Vertical micro-adjustable yardage wheel for repeatable dialing, refined micro windage, 4" dovetail bar that drops straight onto a Bridge Lock riser, quick-detach that returns to zero. Interchangeable pin inserts run as up pin, drop pin or horizontal pin. Designed and assembled in the USA. If you want one sight that can be a single-pin dialer or a multi-pin hunting rig depending on the insert, this is the one to look at first.
2. Axcel Landslyde Carbon Pro — RH. Carbon extension, Rapid Adjust Knob and quick release for fast elevation moves, and two individually adjustable pointers so you can preset distances. Fine yardage and windage adjustment, metal sight tapes, first, second and third axis adjustment, AccuStat II scope. In stock in AccuStat II 3 Pin .019, 5 Pin .019 and 5 Pin .010 — the 3 Pin .010 is currently out.
3. Axcel AccuHunter — AccuStat II 5 Pin .019. A multi-pin slider rather than a single-pin: micro-adjust pins, quick elevation adjustment, a Dead Stop that returns you to a repeatable 20-yard setting, and an adjustable rheostat cover to pull pin brightness down on flat bright days. Ambidextrous with no additional parts. One SKU, and we are holding three.

Three sliders this article used to recommend, and exactly where each one stands now:

• UltraView UV Slider with UV3XL SE scope. I have this on three bows right now. ~12.5 oz. Bridgelock, Picatinny, and dovetail mounts. Single-turn DualDial elevation with zero backlash, pre-leveled 1st and 3rd axes out of the box. The scope cartridge system means I can swap pin count or size without re-tuning the whole sight. Ships with 140-yard tapes, case, batteries. The fourth long-range bonus pin is a bigger deal than people give it credit for. Availability: we cannot sell this sight. UltraView does not permit dropshipping, confirmed in writing by our distributor on July 24, 2026, and the product page has been taken down. That is permanent, not a stock issue. The paragraph above stays because it is true and it is still what is on my bows — but it is not a recommendation you can act on here, and we are not expecting it back.
• Spot Hogg Boonie — single and double-pin ROTI. Modular slider, removable tape wheel, enhanced micro-adjust, same Spot Hogg toughness in a lighter package than the older Fast Eddie line. Availability: the 1-Pin ROTI, the 2-Pin ROTI, the 5-Pin .010 and the Triple Stack are all out at the distributor. The only Boonie we can ship is the 7-Pin .019, and that is a fixed multi-pin sight, not a single-pin slider — which is why it is listed under fixed multi-pin above instead of here. If a ROTI Boonie is specifically what you want, we cannot do it right now, and swapping you to the 7-pin would be selling you a different sight.
• Axcel DRIVR. 8.6 oz, marketed as the lightest slider out there. Top-to-bottom in 3/4 of a wheel turn with Micro Deadstop. Bridgelock, dovetail, or Picatinny. If light weight is the priority, it is a real option. Availability: we do not carry the DRIVR. There is nothing to click here — if minimum weight is your deciding factor, buy it somewhere that stocks it.

Hunting Plus 3D, Stretching Shots Way Out

If you do both — hunt hard and shoot 3D, and you want to reach out past 80 — the Spot Hogg Hogg Father Pro is my pick. It combines the Hogg Father and Boonie features into one body: vertical micro-adjustable yardage wheel, refined micro-adjust windage, precision dovetail. I pair mine with the PRIZ, Spot Hogg's new-for-2026 lens insert that shifts the sight picture for zero magnification and crystal clarity. Note: PRIZ is a lens product, not a rangefinder. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Availability: the Hogg Father PRO Dovetail RH is in stock here in all six pin configurations. The PRIZ lens insert is not something we stock — source it separately.

Target Sight: One Answer

Axcel Achieve XP Pro. Hard to find something the XP Pro is missing. 6" and 9" lengths. Single-screw balanced tension on windage and elevation that locks down. New Diamond Weave ultra-high-modulus carbon bar cuts twist and vibration roughly in half. SVD damping in the elevation and windage GIB system. Compact 2nd/3rd axis scope block — about an ounce lighter than the old Achieve. Wedge Lock mount, Dual Bridge Technology. Comes in Black, Blue, Gold, Green, Orange, Purple, Red, Silver. MSRP $549.99. Availability: we list the Achieve XP in 6 in. RH and that page is still live, but it is out of stock at the distributor and we cannot ship one today. This one is a stock problem, not a brand restriction like the UltraView and Black Gold sights, so it may well come back. Check the product page before you build a plan around it.

Pin Diameter

• .010" pins: Fine. Best for target shooters and precision long-range hunters.
• .019" pins: Standard hunting pin. Good visibility, sharp enough at 60 yards.
• .029" pins: Heavy. Maximum low-light visibility, less precision at distance.

For most hunters: .019" across the board. For long-range western: .010" on the long pin, .019" up close.

Sight Light Reality

A sight light buys you 30 minutes of legal light morning and evening, depending on the state. Some states allow them. Some don't. Check your regs.

If you can use one, get a fiber-optic sight with a battery-powered rheostat. Half-power for legal light, full power for indoor or pre-dawn practice.

Level and Bubble

The bubble catches cant. You can't feel three degrees of cant. The bubble shows it. Every modern hunting sight has one. Use it. Especially from a treestand or sidehill.

Sight Tapes

Most sights ship with a generic tape. Get one printed for your actual bow, arrow, peep height, and sight model. The Forge prints custom sight tapes for the major sight brands. Enter your setup, get a tape PDF you cut and stick. Temperature compensation is in there for late season.

The Picks

• What we can't sell you, plainly: UltraView and Black Gold, permanently, because those brands do not allow dropshipping. Spot Hogg Hogg-It, Dialed Archery Strike and Axcel DRIVR, because we have never carried them. Named here so you are not left wondering where the links went.

The Honest Decision

Buy the sight for the shot you actually take. Stand hunter inside 40? Fixed multi-pin. Western hunter pushing 60+? Slider. Competitor? Target sight. Don't buy a competition rig to hunt whitetail. Don't try to stretch a 5-pin fixed to 80-yard elk. The sights we carry are grouped the same way this article is — by the shot you actually take, not by pin count.

Match the tool to the job. Practice with it until the sight picture is automatic.
