Terms of Service

1. Who we are

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Sparrow Expeditions website at sparrowexpeditions.com, the Sparrow Forge web application ("The Forge"), the Range Log, the Tune Wizard, and any associated tools, content, or subscription services (collectively, the "Service").

The Service is operated by Sparrow Expeditions ("Sparrow," "we," "us," or "our"). By creating an account, subscribing to a paid plan, or otherwise using the Service, you ("you" or "User") agree to these Terms.

2. The Service

The Forge is a set of web-based tools for archers — arrow builders, spine calculators, tuning workflows, practice logs, and related calculators. The information and recommendations produced by the Service are based on documented archery research, manufacturer specifications, and field-tested calibration anchors, but they are not professional advice. You are responsible for verifying any output of the Service before using it to assemble equipment, tune a bow, or take a shot at an animal.

Archery involves inherent risks. You assume full responsibility for the safe handling, assembly, tuning, and use of all archery equipment. Sparrow is not liable for any injury, equipment failure, or hunting outcome resulting from your use of the Service.

3. Accounts and access

You may use the Free tier of the Service without an account. Paid tiers (Hunter, Competition, Pro) require an account and a valid subscription processed through Shopify Payments.

• You must provide accurate account information and keep it current.
• You're responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. Don't share your login.
• You must be at least 18 years old, or have a parent or guardian's permission, to subscribe to a paid plan.

4. Subscriptions and billing

4.1 Trial period

Every paid plan starts with a 7-day free trial. You may cancel during the trial period at no cost. Shopify requires a payment method on file to enroll in a trial; your card will not be charged until day 8 unless you cancel first.

4.2 Recurring charges

Paid plans renew automatically (monthly or annually, depending on your selection) until cancelled. Pricing is published on the Pricing page and may change with at least 30 days' notice to existing subscribers.

4.3 Cancellation and refunds

• You may cancel anytime from your account page. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; we don't issue partial refunds for unused time.
• Annual subscribers who cancel mid-term retain access through the paid-up end of the term and then drop to the Free tier.
• If your card is declined and the charge fails after retries, your account is downgraded to Free until the next successful payment.

4.4 Tier changes

You may upgrade or downgrade at any time. Upgrades are prorated and take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the next billing date.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service.
• Use the Service to develop a competing product or service.
• Scrape, crawl, or systematically download content (catalog data, calculator logic, methods pages) for redistribution.
• Resell, sublicense, or transfer your subscription without our written permission.
• Use the Service to harass, defame, or threaten any person or group.
• Upload illegal content, malware, or attempt to disrupt the Service.

Pro shops and coaches interested in white-label or multi-seat arrangements should contact us at sal@sparrowexpeditions.com. We're friendly to those use cases when arranged in advance.

6. Your content

Saved builds, range sessions, tuning notes, and other data you create or upload remain yours. You retain all rights to your content.

By using the Service, you grant Sparrow a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to process your content for the purpose of operating the Service — storing it, syncing it across your devices, and generating recommendations from it. We do not sell your data, share your individual session data with third parties, or use your specific builds in marketing without your explicit consent.

Aggregate community insights: If you opt in to aggregate contributions (Range Log → Settings → Contribute to community insights), we may compute anonymized aggregate statistics (median scores, common build patterns, etc.) and display them to other users. Opt-in is off by default and revocable at any time.

7. Intellectual property

The Forge, its math, its catalog data, the Forge Score formula, the Field Notes content, the Methods page, and all related code, copy, and design are the intellectual property of Sparrow Expeditions or our licensors. Manufacturer trademarks (Mathews, Hoyt, Easton, etc.) are the property of their respective owners and are used here for compatibility and reference purposes only.

You may reference our calculators, methods, or Field Notes for personal use, education, or non-commercial discussion (including linking from social media or forums). You may not republish our content wholesale or use our trademarks in a way that implies endorsement.

8. Disclaimers and limits of liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that any output is accurate for your specific use case. Always verify recommendations against your own measurements, bareshaft / paper-tune results, and the manufacturer's specifications before acting.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sparrow's total liability to you for any claim arising out of or related to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $100, whichever is greater. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.

9. Changes to the Service

We ship constantly. The Service today is not the Service you'll see in six months. We may add features, change features, sunset features, or modify pricing. Material changes that affect existing subscribers will be communicated with at least 30 days' notice.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted at this URL with a new effective date. Continued use of the Service after a change indicates your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you don't agree to a change, cancel your subscription before the new effective date and stop using the Service.

11. Privacy

Our use of your personal information is governed by our Privacy Choices page and Shopify's underlying data handling for payments and customer accounts.

12. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute that can't be resolved informally between us will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Cook County, Illinois.

Before filing any legal action, we ask that you email us at sal@sparrowexpeditions.com with the dispute and give us 30 days to make it right. We're a small shop. Most issues are easier to fix with an email than a lawsuit.
